STIRR: STIRR CANADA is one of the largest regular gatherings of early stage entrepreneurs in North America. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, STIRR USA events bring together over 1,000 early stage entrepreneurs annually. STIRR CANADA is launching in 2008 and Calgary is the entrepreneur hub for its base. Like the USA chapter, STIRR CANADA will seek to engage, inspire, inform and be a catalyst of growth for early stage entrepreneurs.

The Wired West: What do second-hand books, animated penguins, digital photos and tax returns have in common? Western Canadian business success stories have been built upon them. This is "The Wired West": entrepreneurs leveraging the global reach of the Internet to run industry-leading small and medium businesses from the Canadian West.

BarCamp Calgary: BarCamp is an international network of open, participatory workshop-events, focusing on early-stage innovations and open source technologies. BarCamp Calgary is just getting off the ground and Material Insight is a periodic proud sponsor and rookie attendee. Come out! Tip: BarCamp arose as a spin-off of Foo Camp, an annual invitation-only participant driven conference hosted by open source publishing luminary Tim O'Reilly.

TechRev: Looking to learn about Alberta's tech startups? TechRev profiles local technology leaders and promotes opportunities for investment and innovation in Calgary and around Alberta. Material Insight is a proud supporter of the TechRev initiative. Go for it - join their network.

Try on Tech: This initiative is our way of trying to turn up the volume on the growth and opportunity of the Calgary tech sector. Recent local successes include image giants iStockphoto and Veer, and StumbleUpon purchased by eBay for $75 million. The technology sector accounts for 10 per cent of local economic growth.
